  • Notes
    • Early Life
Hugh was born on the 22nd of June 1873, the third son of Harry Curtis Nisbet and Louisa (née Bruce).

      Career
He attended Winchester College, before serving as a Lieutenant with the Imperial Yeomanry during the South African War (aka the Second Boer War, 1899-1902). He was a Public Prosecutor in the Transvaal 1902 then became Resident Magistrate at Potchefstroom (North West Province, South Africa). Somehow, he appears also to have squeezed in a career in amateur tennis: some sources say that he was a men's doubles finalist at Wimbledon in 1898, 1899 and 19001. He is also listed as having been a singles champion in Hong Kong in 1911, 1913 and 19142. He was the Registrar, Supreme Court of Hong Kong from 1911 to 19283. We have entries of his in the Lithend Visitor's Book from 1925 which give his address, generically, as Hong Kong.

      Family Life
Hugh married Flora "Flossie" Short and they had one son, also called Hugh Adair Nisbet (born 1915, died 1954).

      Death
Hugh died, aged 63, on the 12th of March 1937 at his home on Kensington Park Road.
