Early Life
A William Marriott was baptised 5
th July 1790 at Wakefield in Yorkshire, the son of Thomas Marriott and Clementina ___. Ancestry trees have all picked this as the correct person, though I'm not sure how. If we assume that he was based in Wakefield, then there was another William Marriott baptised 5
th of May 1792, son of Joseph Marriott and Elizabeth who could also be the right parents.
Either of these dates of birth (1790 or 1792) are compatible with his wife's birth in 1799, and his marriage in 1821.
Career
William is listed as a '
Worsted Spinner' on his marriage certificate (see
Family Life below). William and many other people in this part of the family tree (e.g. the
Luptons, the
Bucktons) were involved in wool and cloth.
Family Life
William married
Harriet Micklethwaite, the daughter of
James Micklethwaite of
Hopton Hall and
Elizabeth Oxley on the 9
th of April 1821, at
St Mary in
Mirfield, Yorkshire. They had at least four children:
- William Thomas, born 1822
- Elizabeth Ann, born 1824 and who married George Buckton
- Alfred, born 1827
- Emma, born 1829
Death
William died after 1829 (birth of his last daughter
Emma) and before the 1841 Census, when his wife Harriet is listed as a widow. A William Marriott of Wakefield had a will registered at York Prerogative & Exchequer Courts in June 1832, but I haven't got a copy and therefore don't know if this is the right person.
Residences
- In 1822 when his first son was born, "of Westgate, Wakefield"
