  • Notes
    • Early Life
William Scroggs was the son of Sir William Scroggs and Anne Fettyplace.

Oxford University Alumni (1500-1886. Volume IV):
Scroggs, (Sir) William, s. William, of Deddington, Oxon, pleb Magdalen Coll. matric 26 March, 1669, aged 17, chorister 1669-73, BA 4 March 1762-3; bar-at-law, Gray's Inn, 1676, KC 1681, treasurer 1686-8, knighted 7 Oct 1681; licenced 1 Jan 1683-4 to marry Mary, daughter of Sir John Churchill, of Churchill, Somerset, kt; licenced also 27 Nov 1685 to marry Anne Bluck, of St Andrew, Holborn, spinster; died 1695.

This entry seems to be mixing both people as the dates are consistent with this entry (the husband of Anne Bluck) but the parentage seems to be taken from the other William Scroggs.

      Career
      Knighted 7 Oct 1681.

      Family Life
William married Anne Bluck on the 1st December 1685. There is an interesting relationship between the Scroggs, Gylby and Bluck families of this generation:

      1. William Scroggs married Anne Bluck
      2. Anne had a sister called Elizabeth Bluck
      3. Elizabeth Bluck married William Gylby
      4. William Gylby had a brother called Anthony Gylby
      5. Anthony Gylby married Elizabeth Scroggs, the sister of William Scroggs where we started this little diversion
