  • Notes
    • Early Life
Andrew Stewart was the son of Alexander Stewart and ___. Online pedigrees give d.o.b of 9th Feb 1470 in Avondale, but with no source. Certainly he would have been born around this period, given the ages of subsequent descendants.

      Career & Family Life
Andrew was Lord of the Bedchamber to King James IV. He inherited the title of Lord Avondale from his grand-uncle, Andrew, the first Lord Avondale, who died in 1488 without issue.

Note that Burke's1 gets mixed up about the lords Avondale, citing this Andrew as the 3rd Lord, when in fact he was the second, inheriting the title from his uncle. His father, Alexander, never took the title as he presumably died before his brother. Wikipedia too is also confusing. Here, I follow the numbering from The Scots Peerage2. Burke's Extinct Peerages actually seems to get the numbering right.

Andrew married Margaret Kennedy, daughter of John, 2nd Lord Kennedy, some time before the 4th February 1499/50 when he and his wife were both mentioned in a charter of confirmation of the barony of Morphie.

      Death
Andrew died at the Battle of Flodden Field on the 9th of September 1513.
