Ketelborn is shown by his name to have been of Anglo-Scandinavian descent; he was probably born around 1080-90. I can see no reason to doubt that he was a descendant of the pre-Conquest owner of Emley, though there is no positive evidence of it. Domesday merely states that the soke of three carucates in Emley belonged to the manor of Wakefield". Ketelborn was living in 1135.
