Early Life
Christopher Whichcote was born in March 1602/3 and baptised on the 20
th at
Burford in Shropshire. His parents were
Christopher Whichcote of
Stoke (in Shropshire) and
Elizabeth Fox.
Career and Family Life
Christopher was the Governor of Windsor Castle.
We know for sure that Christopher's wife was called Katherine, as that name matches the baptismal record for their daughter Mary. Ancestry trees give her full name as Katherine Hudson. However, a
Boyd's Inhabitants of London record for 1635 gives his wife's names as what looks like "Fordith Catherine". But actually the first word is Judith, and has been crossed out, because whoever filled in this record had got confused with a record from 1631 for Edward Whichcote (Christopher's brother) who had married a Judith Foxcroft. Unfortunately, the details of her actual surname and parents are left empty in this record.
According to that same record, Christopher and Katherine had:
- John, b. 1636
- Christopher, b. 1638
- Elizabeth, b. 1639, who married Matthias Crabbe
- Mary, b. 1640, who married the Rev. John Worthington
Death
Ancestry trees give his death as 26 April 1664 in
London, with no sources.
