  • Notes
    • Early Life
Ancestry trees have Christopher Whichcote born 1530 at Whichcote Hall, with no sources. He could certainly have been born in the 1520s but no later than 1541 (his father died in 1540).

      Family Life
Christopher married Lucy Bosville, daughter of Thomas Bosville of Ardsley and Newhall and his wife Anne Sutton, presumably before 1570. This marriage is mentioned in Lincolnshire Pedigrees1; however, if we look at the Bosvile pedigree (e.g. in Foster's County Families of Yorkshire2) we see that Lucy Bosvile is supposed to have married ___ Mangall and her sister, Ellen, was the one who married ___ Whichcote. It's hard to know which of the two is correct, though it's definitely clear that whoever she was, she was daughter to Thomas Bosvile of Ardsley. For this tree, I'll stick with Lucy as the right sister because Linconlshire Pedigrees seems to have more complete detail of this generation and couple than the Bosvile pedigrees.

Christopher and Lucy had the following children:

      1. John, m. Mary Powell
      2. Christopher, b. 1571 and who married Elizabeth Fox
      3. Margaret, who married Edmund Hall of Gretford

      Death
Per Lincolnshire Pedigrees1, Christopher Whichcote died on the 18th of May 1583, whereas Betham's Baronetage3 has him dying in on the 3rd of March 1609. He definitely died in 1583 as his will from that time clearly names his sons John and Christopher, and his brothers Robert (deceased), Leonard and Anthony.
