    • Early Life
      Isabel Smyth was born c. 1590, estimated from her marriage in 1614 and the births of her children. In Ducatus Loediensis1 she is noted as being "of London", but I have found no further details on her. It's possible that she was christened Mary (Ducatus Leodiensis in the 1816 edition gives her name thus) but changed it to Isabel by the time she married. There are plenty of baptismal records for Mary and Marie Smyths in Sussex and Middlesex between 1580 and 1599, but none for an Isabel, so she is a brick wall at this point.
