      Alexander Maule must have been born before 1447 as he was married by 1468 and receiving grants of land.

      From The Scots Peerage1:
      ... 'was ane prodigal man, not gewen for the well of his hows.' He left Scotland in 1489, having quarrelled with his wife, taking large sums of money with him. When or how he died is not known; neither he nor his money was ever heard of, and it was supposed that he had been robbed and murdered. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir David Guthrie of that Ilk
