Early Life
Dugdale1 reports that John was 9 years old at his grandfather's Inquisition PM (the inquisition of his grandfather, Robert, was held in 1489), meaning that John Portington was born c. 1480. He was the son of Thomas Portington and Margaret Kiddall
Family Life
Dugdale1 reports he married Mary, daughter of John Copley. Ducatus2 says he married Cecily, daughter of Thomas Copley. This latter is also given in Pedigrees3 though I often find mistakes in this source. Dugdale is at least internally consistent, as his own Copley pedigree also has Mary daughter of John. The Visitation4 shows Mary Copley, daughter of John Copley and Agnes Pygot, marrying Thomas Portington

Dugdale also has a Copley pedigree on page 154, showing Mary, daughter to John, marrying "John or Thomas Portington"

Ducatus also has a Copley pedigree (page 9) but I don't find Mary daughter of John.
